To begin your dog training process teaching the 7 basic commands. There are very few things you need. Usually a 6 foot dog leash for leash training is good to have. We may be biased but we prefer leather dog leashes, because with time the leashes only become more comfortable an supple as time goes on. An anchor or a point you can tie your dog off to begin teaching in a controlled environment is needed. Another thing that is important to have are dog treats to provide positive reinforcement. It's best to have ones that you can break up into smaller pieces to prevent an overload of calories as your dog learns.

1.Sit

To teach your dog to sit, hold a treat in your hand and place it above their head. As the dog reaches for the treat, move your hand back past your dog's nose, towards their tail, and the dog should naturally sit down. When the dog is in the sitting position, reward your dog's behavior with a treat. If your dog has a tendency to jump up or lunge, this is a great opportunity to incorporate the leash. Put the leash on your dog and step on it so that there is no slack between the leash and the ground and slowly begin repeating the steps listed above

2.Stay

The stay command is another essential command in dog training. To teach your dog to stay, ask them to sit, and then hold your hand up in front of them and say "stay." Then take a step back and wait for a few seconds before returning to your dog and rewarding them with a treat. Gradually increase the distance and duration of the stay command over time.

3.Come

To teach your dog to come when called, start by using a long leash to prevent the dog from running away. 4.Heel

The heel command is used to teach your dog to walk calmly beside you on a leash. This will involve a little leash training, hold the leash in your left hand and hold a treat in your right hand. Walk forward, and when your dog starts to pull ahead, say "heel" and gently pull the leash towards you. Reward your dog when they are walking calmly beside you.

5.Down

As the dog reaches for the treat, move your hand forward and down towards the ground. The dog should follow the treat and lie down. Reward the dog with a treat when they are lying down.

6.Off

The off command is used to teach your dog not to jump up on people or furniture. To teach your dog to get off, say "off" in a firm tone and gently push the dog off with your hand or foot. Reward the dog when they are off and not jumping.

7.Leave it

 

The leave it command is used to teach your dog not to touch or eat something that they shouldn't. To teach your dog to leave it, place a treat on the ground and say "leave it" in a firm tone.
